After a spectacular finale at the end of a very special year, the banding community and Warragul Municipal Band (WMB) in particular, were sad to learn that Geoff Coote did in fact take his last bow at the end of 2025. Geoff's legacy, not to forget his massive contribution to the success of the WMB's 140th Anniversary Year Celebrations Concert, is irrefutable. We all wish him well in his retirement and look forward to seeing him again soon.
The President and the Committee of WMB Inc. is therefore now seeking expressions of interest for the vacant role of Musical Director.
Please email your EOI and CV/resume to:
Thomas Cunningham, WMB Secretary, via email: secretary@warragulband.org
WMB is a community brass band located in Gippsland, 100km southeast of Melbourne, in Victoria, Australia. WMB Inc. is a registered charity run by an enthusiastic, creative team of volunteers with a collaborative vision to promote music by encouraging, facilitating, and advancing musical education, development, and performance opportunities.
The Band, now in its 141st year, is in an exciting phase of operation with an already established community Music Education Program involving Come & Try, Band Ready, Training Band, and soon to be Junior Band. All these programs, led by the Music Education Officer, and the senior band itself, operate from a fit-for-purpose suite of band rooms located in the West Gippsland Arts Centre precinct in the centre of Warragul.
The Musical Director is a pivotal role, responsible for leading and directing WMB in musical performances, ensuring high standards of musical excellence, and fostering a positive and collaborative environment within the ensemble. The role also collaborates with the Music Education Officer, providing support, feedback, and helping to identify musicians ready to step up into the Senior WMB.
Our diversity of membership has created a unique music group in Warragul, one that embraces musical genres beyond the traditional brass band repertoire. We aim to enable everyone to experience the thrill and pleasure of making music together to a good standard, no matter their stage of learning. We have fostered a family culture over the years, and we are committed to maintaining it. The band, with its rich history and excellent community-focused strategy, offers a unique and exciting opportunity for a new Musical Director to drive and be part of a period of significant growth and development. Ultimately taking the band towards its next milestone – its 150th Anniversary Year in 2035!
The President and the Committee of WMB Inc. continue to fully support the WMB strategy, CLEF strategic pillars, and the Music Education Program. They anticipate the prompt appointment of a new Musical Director (MD) and Music Education Officer (MEO) and so invite EOI’s from both the local community and beyond to fill these strategically significant positions.
Please note that all positions within WMB Inc. are voluntary, although the positions of MD and MEO may attract an honorarium. More information will be supplied to those who submit their EOI and CV/resume, and all EOI’s will be responded to.
Please email your EOI and CV/resume for consideration to WMB Secretary, Thomas Cunningham.
